Violeta and her brother Arien are orphans. Found at the edge of a forest one night, with no memories of how they arrived there. They live a fairly sorrowful life now at the ages of 17 and 13. One day the Lord of the land comes to collect the tithe and stumbles upon the two. After seeing what Arien is capable of, he wants him to come to his home. The Lord of the land is no hero come to save them from a life of misery, for all the tales and gossip surrounding him speak of unimaginable acts and terrible bargains with Lord Under. Violeta will do anything to keep her brother safe, but to do so she has to remember all she has fought so hard to forget.
First of all.... I want to say that the quality of debuts coming out right now are .....
This book is no different. Lakesedge is what you get if you took all the best parts from ACOTAR, Hades + Persephone, and Shadow and bone and mashed them all together into a book. I know I know, it doesn't sound like those three stories go together, I would have said the same thing. I read Lakesedge though, and it is perfection. I read the entire book in one sitting (stayed up far too late to finish it). I was 12 pages in when I messaged Becca and said "oh this is Goooooood!" Which was a nice change of pace for me since the last couple of books I've picked up I DNF (no, I won't tell you what those were. Just because they didn't work for my mood that day doesn't mean I wont go back and try again.)
Lyndall Clipstone's world building in Lakesedge is stunning and imaginative. When I read, it's like a movie playing out in my head. If the details aren't there, the movie doesn't play and I just can't get into the story at all. This movie was in vibrant 4k HD Technicolor! I honestly can't wait for Forestfall to come out. I have no idea how I want the series to play out. I have a soft spot for the lonely villain but also... TRUE LOVE! How do you choose? I can't wait to see where Forestfall takes us.
I would recommend this book to any fan of fantasy, romance, or those who enjoy the previously mentioned books. Just be sure you are over 14 years old 😉. There isn't anyone I wouldn't recommend Lakesedge to.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars for another Brilliant September debut!
